Hilary from Elite

hilaryred.jpgHilary is a lovely model, beautiful hair, tall slim figure and totally professional. I was doing some general testing and this is what I came up with. I had a lot of help from my wonderful stylist Alx.

She looked great in that red dress shot against a white sweep, but I couldnt help dropping in a background to make it a little more intersting.

For several years I shot boxing events ringside in Chicago, and it gave me a wonderful opportunity to peak behind the curtain of the Chicago boxing scene. This first photo was taken in the stairwell at the now closed Windy City Gym, the image has now taken on a ghostlike quality.

Windy City Gym

The gym, when I knew it was at its second home on 4401 W Ogden Ave. It was an old school boxing gym in the classic sense. When you walked in, the first thing you would hear was the sound of someone skipping rope blended with the staccato rhythm of the speedbag. Every major fighter who came through Chicago either trained there or stopped to hang out. The walls were covered with aging posters of past fights.

One of my favorite photographs was taken with this backdrop in the double ring in the center of the gym under a skylight. It shows a boxer in an iconic pose, his sculpted body in high relief as if he were posing for a coin.

As I have mentioned in a previous post I’ve take an interest in all things Chinese. As a place to start I’m learning some of the most common Chinese characters and I’ve created a website to help me study so I don’t need to carry around flash cards all the time. It also is a work in progress. Click here to see 250 essential Chinese characters with their pinyin pronunciation and English meaning. I am in the process of putting together and index page and also hope to be adding sound files.

I will be adding more posts so please check out the rest of my blog.

Bob Shaw

Published by admin under Photography

Bob was a good friend of mine for many years now living in Tuscany. A unique character in every way. When I knew Bob he was a painter doing these really huge abstract paintings. This photograph was taken in a studio we shared above the Biograph Theater. Their was a full wall of windows that cast shadows across the walls and floor. This photograph was take before an exhibit of his work a prince on a thrown.

Gwen

Gwen was a model that I worked with to explore some painting techniques, she has an almost Flemish face so I thought it worked out well.
